I grew up around leather. My grandfather was in the business. My father Stephen spent decades in it, building Avanti Outerwear into one of the largest leather apparel companies in the world. He supplied leathers for Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger. He retired in 2015.
I'd been working leather sales in New York for years by then, and I kept running into the same problem. Designers needed one place with real selection and real expertise. Not a commodity supplier who could only offer a handful of SKUs and no guidance. The good stuff existed, but you needed the right contacts to find it.
So in 2016, I called my father and told him what I was thinking. He came out of retirement.
That's how District Leathers started. We pulled together everything we'd built across four generations. The tannery relationships, the sourcing trips across five continents, the knowledge of what actually works for different applications. And put it in one place. Our showroom in the NYC Garment District. And online, so designers anywhere in the world can access the same leathers the biggest fashion houses use.
